Individual Therapy
It isn’t an easy path from where you are to where you want to be, but you won’t be alone.
Therapy is a collaborative effort between you and me – together we look at pain, trauma, loss and everything in between.
You have a story of which I would be honored to hear. If you choose to take that first step, call or email me.
EMDR Therapy
EMDR allows you to learn from negative experiences of the past.
When we experience traumatic events in our lives, we often have unprocessed memories that get fragmented and stored as disturbing images, thoughts, emotions, and sensations.
It’s like having a corrupted computer file which repeats in a loop.
When memories are triggered it can feel like you are in the middle of an experience, the threat is still real. This can happen in the form of flashbacks, nightmares, fear/startle responses, or other triggers.
How does EMDR help me?
EMDR therapy assists different areas of the brain to communicate with each other. Think of a kaleidoscope, it distorts the image through a lens, in many ways your memories are distorted in the same way. When your brain is able to reprocess these memories the image becomes clear and your brain is able to determine the memory is not a present threat and the memory is properly stored.
Splankna
Splankna is the first Christian energy-based therapy used to help people transform trapped memories and improve their well-being.
Increase your ability to express yourself authentically and productively when unique and unplanned life circumstances are present. Splankna, was developed over the past 20+ years with a balance of theology and psychology.
The belief in Biblical truth is the foundational means of bringing transformation, healing, and growth into the fullness of our beings. Although this is a Christian-based therapy, you do not have to believe what I believe. The session will include muscle testing and prayer.
Grief and Loss
Grief can come in many forms; there is no right way to get through it. Many clients feel as though they have to hold it together, be strong for their family, or feel it was months or years ago and they should be over it by now.
Grief is not constrained by time. Allowing yourself to sit in deep sorrow, pain and your emotions is the beginning of healing. Loss isn’t just about death. I have seen people lose a job and their life seemed to melt into a giant pile of “I’m a failure.” They begin to wonder was I actually good at my job? What am I going to do now?
When my friend lost the ability to have children because of cancer, I watched as she became angry at the world. She questioned if she was still a woman. She asked, “who would want her now?” Loss happens in everyone’s life, and at times, we need help getting through the loss.
The power of understanding
I lost count of how many funerals I have attended. The amount of I’m sorry for your loss and many other well-intentioned things people say, feel like an empty bucket of words.
I remember after my father’s funeral it was hard to laugh – I felt guilty if I smiled for months. The truth is people in grief and loss are allowed to remember the good and the bad, allowed to smile, laugh and cry.
At my sister’s funeral, I was crying and laughing. The funeral director came out with his shirt poking through his pants and he announced another name for the gathering after the funeral. In true style, my sister’s sense of humor was playing out in front of us and we could not contain our giggles through the sadness.
Depression & Anxiety
Like a wave hitting you unexpectedly, depression and anxiety can hit you out of nowhere or creep up in unexpected ways.
I hear client’s stories of being stuck in bed; feeling depleted, as if they were just going through the motions. Depression has a stigma in our society, but it is also a way to reboot your brain and body.
Some depression or sadness is healthy. When it sticks around, disrupting your life and relationships, talking and learning new skills can help.
Jane described walking into a crowded store as painful.
Her heart rate increased, and her palms began to sweat. She felt trapped like an animal in a cage. She needed milk but her feet felt heavy, like they were stuck in mud.
It was hard for her to imagine moving an inch in that store. Before starting therapy, she would just turn around and go home empty handed.
With practice and the techniques from our work, it became possible to shed the pain and begin to control the panicked feeling in her chest and body. These little victories can change the quality of someone’s entire life.
